Create a patient association health app
Health app for a patient association: one space per condition, for members only
Each member finds the content on their condition, the calendar of meetings meant for them and the association's news, with nobody else able to get in.
Your association's own app, native on phones and open in browsers, set up without code: sections opened by group, meetings announced to the right people, and a public part to make your work known.

One space per condition
Each group of members opens its own sections, and only those
Create as many groups as your association has audiences: a condition, a form of the disease, parents of affected children, caregivers. Each reserved section opens to the group you name; a member who belongs to two groups sees both spaces. The association places every account in a group from the back office, so nobody assigns themselves a space.

Meetings, announced to the right group
Support groups, information days, drop-in hours: a calendar and a targeted push
List each meeting in an Agenda section, public or reserved: date, place, topic, speaker. Address the push to the group concerned only, right away or at a time you schedule, so parents don't get the announcement meant for caregivers. The automatic push of an Agenda section goes out on the day of the meeting, not when you publish it.

Each space gathers its articles, practical sheets and calendar, open to one group only. The first message
A welcome push to the group, and the member knows where to find the next meeting.
Information, never treatment
Daily life with the condition, rights, paperwork: no medical advice
The reserved sections are about living with the condition: paperwork, rights, testimonies, practical sheets reviewed by the health professionals who support your association. They make no diagnosis and recommend no treatment. A page to read first says so: the app does not replace a doctor's advice, and a question about a treatment goes to whoever prescribed it.

The chronic disease association
One space per form of the disease, another for caregivers; each support group is announced to its own participants only.
The food intolerance association
One space per elimination or prescribed diet, with suitable recipes and the list of products its volunteers have checked, reviewed by the dietitians who advise it.
The media selling health articles
If your readers pay to read rather than to join, the right tool is a health magazine sold by subscription.

Missions, local branches, talks open to everyone
Without an account, a visitor discovers your missions, the local branches on a map with their drop-in hours, the talks open to all and the contact page. The contact form asks for a name and an email address, never a diagnosis: your membership records tell you which group the person belongs in.

Patient association health app: frequently asked questions
Is belonging to a condition group health data?
Yes, it is safer to treat it that way: knowing that someone opens a disease's space says something about their health. In Europe, data concerning health is one of the GDPR's special categories, and in the United States, HIPAA may also come into play, depending on who runs the app and why. Under GoodBarber's terms, checking which rules apply and whether the service meets them is up to you; if they call for a certified host, keep individual follow-up on your certified tool. The app itself asks for no medical history, prescriptions or medical documents.
Can the yearly membership fee be paid in the app?
No. Spaces by group rely on User groups, and an app that uses them sells no subscription through the stores: the two setups exclude each other. Members keep settling their fee outside the app, the way they do now.
Can an association around a food intolerance or a therapeutic diet use it?
Yes: one group per diet, gluten-free or low-salt for instance, and in each space the recipes, shopping lists and sheets your volunteers keep up to date. The content covers daily life on the diet; prescribing it and following it up remain the job of the doctor or dietitian.
Who decides that a member enters a space, or leaves it?
The association, from the back office: you add the account to one or more groups, and remove it when the membership ends. The reserved sections then close for that person.
Can the app collect prescriptions or medical reports?
No, and that is not its role. The app's forms are for sign-ups and contact: name, email, chosen meeting. A medical document goes to the health professional, through the channels meant for it.
What budget for a patient association app?
Premium to publish on the stores, plus the Authentication option and the User groups option; with Pro, nothing to add. Hosting, notifications and app updates are part of the plan.
The cost of a patient association app
The iPhone and Android apps start with Premium. Reserved spaces rest on the Authentication option and the User groups option, both standard with Pro. No subscription module is involved.
| Premium · iPhone and Android apps, web version | $55 /month, billed yearly |
| Authentication, added to Premium | $12 /month |
| User groups, added to Premium | $5 /month |
| Pro · both options already included | $105 /month, billed yearly |
Apple and Google developer accounts are paid separately, to each of them directly.
Extension Store
Two paid options make the spaces by condition: User groups and Authentication (taken with Premium, already in Pro). Push, Agenda, articles, form, map and contact are free.
